Silver Coins

What this category covers

Here you will find silver coins, sets and cased sets, Italian and foreign. The category has two subcategories: Savoy Silver, with more than half of the pieces, and Vatican Silver.

Savoy coins

5 Lire, 2 Lire, 1 Lira and centesimi struck between 1826 and 1910 in the name of Carlo Felice, Carlo Alberto, Vittorio Emanuele II (also as "Re Eletto"), Umberto I and Vittorio Emanuele III. They are almost all circulated coins, graded BB (Very Fine) or qBB (about Very Fine). Weight and fineness of the main types are on the Savoy Silver page.

Foreign coins and sets

• Switzerland: 5 Francs of 1909, 1923, 1925 and 1975.
• Europe: Austrian set of 1975, Luxembourg 250 Francs of 1963 with Grand Duchess Charlotte, Spanish 10 euro of 2002 (Gaudí and Football World Cup), Soviet coins for the Moscow 1980 Olympics and 3 roubles of 1988, Ukrainian 5 hryven of 2014.
• Americas: Canadian dollar of 1980 and the centenary album of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mexican coins for the 1986 Football World Cup, 20 Balboas of Panama of 1974, coins of Costa Rica (1970), Haiti (1967), the Bahamas (1977), Barbados (1973) and Anguilla (1970).
• Asia and Africa: Korea (250 Won 1970 and 50 Won 1971), China (cased set of 5 Yuan 1989 and 10 Yuan 1991), Cambodia (5,000 Riels 1974), Indonesia (1970), Jordan (1 Dinar 1969 of Hussein), Uganda (1969 and 1970), sets of Liberia and Papua New Guinea.
• Commemorative issues: the British cased set for the reign anniversary of Elizabeth II, the San Marino triptych for Toscanini of 1977, the Manzoni Centenary of the City of Milan of 1973.

Some pieces are medals and not coins, such as the Canadian album or the San Marino triptych: the name and the product page say so. In the Vatican Silver subcategory you will find issues such as those of the 1978 Sede Vacante.

How to choose

For Savoy coins, year, mint, grade and rarity all count: the abbreviation is explained on the product page when you hover over it with the mouse. For foreign sets, check the packaging in the photo: when the original case or holder is present, the name says so. "Set di prova" and "proof set" indicate sets in Proof (fondo specchio) finish, struck for collectors, not die trials.

In the catalogue you can filter by period, grade, price and rarity. If you are looking for investment silver, there is the Investment Silver category; the commemorative silver coins of the Republic are in Italian Republic Silver.
